Lower water rates for people with bladder and bowel problems
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has
put forward a proposal to lower water rates for some groups of people.
People with a condition that requires them to use a large amount of
water, such as a bowel or bladder problem, will benefit under the new
scheme.
The consultation paper states:
‘Generally the additional water use is for essential extra personal
washing, laundry and cleaning compared to other households. It cannot
be reduced without posing a health risk.’
