Hand Held Urinals
A hand held or portable urinal means that you are never far from a toilet. They are useful for people who find it hard to get to the toilet in time. Hand held urinals are particularly helpful where toilet facilities are not close at hand or easy to use.
They can also be of help to carers when lifting is a problem. It is possible to use a hand held urinal in bed, sitting down or standing up –it depends on which type of urinal you are using.
Using a urinal may not be easy at first – it can take some practice.
It can be useful to use an absorbent bed or chair pad in case any urine spills out.
There are lots of styles of urinal that are of help to different people. Some are made of lightweight plastic which is helpful for people who find it hard to hold heavy objects. Some urinals have a rubber sleeve around the handle to give extra grip. Some have an extra long handle to help and others are designed so that urine can’t spill out. Other urinals come with an absorbent gel – this prevents spills by turning urine into a solid. Some urinals can be folded up and carried in a pocket or bag. This can be particularly useful for those who suddenly get caught short in public. Some of these can only be used once - so the cost can add up if you need to use them a lot. Others can be cleaned and reused.
